Overcoming Procrastination | Overcome Procrastination

By

A post about overcoming procrastination: Two Thursdays ago a bittersweet life lesson was handed down to me which made me think of where I would’ve been if I chose to do things differently. I don’t want to sound too melodramatic because it’s not but it’s a life lesson nonetheless. Nearly or about 4 years ago I started attending a form of martial arts known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I started about the same time as my friend and as far as I can recall, I think a had a few weeks ahead of him.

We started out with relatively the same skill level and knowledge of the martial art. In fact, I was a step ahead of my friend since I had the couple of weeks head start. I would overcome him more than we did me when we sparred. We attended classes 3 to 4 times a week and our passion for the art was strong. We lived, breathed, and ate bjj (brazilian jiu-jitsu). It was fun!

A few months into the martial art I became lazy and didn’t attend much of the classes. I became unmotivated for some reason or other especially when the holidays hit. I’d procrastinate and do something unproductive like sit around and watch TV or do some other time wasting activity. I’d come to class maybe once a week…two at most but that was it for me. Then the two classes a week dwindled down to whenever I felt like it. I continued to go but only every once in awhile due to my procrastination and laziness. It wasn’t on a consistent basis so I never really got back into the rythm and eventually I stopped completely.

I lost touch with my friend but we’d keep in contact every so often. He still continued to go even after all these years. He kept urging me to go in our conversations and in my heart of hearts I still had a passion for the sport. So I decided to enroll again. It’s been about a month or so now.

Fast forward to two Thursdays ago and my friend was awarded his purple belt. A purple belt in bjj is only 2 belts away from black. I thought to myself after the class was over, “What if I continued down this path?”. What if I remained persistent and hadn’t lost my passion for it?. What if I overcame procrastination and ignored the excuses? Where would I be? It is a life lesson that I’ll never forget. It’s good in a way…

So what does this have to do with your home based business? Everything! Imagine yourself 4 years (or sooner) from now if you remain persistent with your business or anything else for that matter. Where would you be a few years from now if you stopped procrastinating and continued down this road? Where would your skill set and knowledge be in your online home business 4 years from now? Now imagine yourself giving in to procrastination. Where would you be 4 years from now?

Here are just some tips (That I Can Use As Well!) to overcoming procrastination:

1.) Identify the reason for procrastination: Could it be fear that’s holding you back?  Laziness? Once you identify the reason, overcoming procrastination becomes easier.

2.) Set up a daily routine: Make a list of priorities that need to be done for that day and don’t rest until that task is complete. A sense of urgency to get the task done will help you avoid procrastination. As for me I need to build backlinks daily for this site. That’s mucho importante and top of my priorities.

3.) Remain persistent: Doing things on a daily basis becomes a habit. Despite what many hyped-up sales pages say, you won’t make “$7,393 in seven days using this system”. The people who do make those figures DID NOT make that off the bat. It took them time to learn the skills and they remained persistent even through the failures.

4.) Have Passion: Being passionate about your business will help you in beating procrastination to a pulp. Your passion for your home business will help you get through the days when you feel like quitting.

5.) Be progressive: Continue learning new skills whether it’s in writing good articles, learning a new traffic technique or learning some basic HTML codes. When you learn new things you become excited in the accomplishment and you’ll build your skill set.

In conclusion, I just want to say that this post was meant for me as much as it was meant for those of you who are struggling in overcoming procrastination and I hope it has encouraged you to continue learning and implementing the skills it takes to succeed. Just like my friend’s breakthrough came 2 Thursdays ago, yours will as well.

Stop procrastinating and learn the skills that pay the bills
